Last year, the Stones River FOP provided $15,000 in assistance to people in our community. This year our foundation’s goal is to raise $20,000. We are excited to see area businesses participating in this great cause. 100% of all proceeds of this tournament benefit the programs conducted by the Stones River FOP Foundation, a 501c3 organization. Your generous contribution supports both the youth and elderly of our community and helps your local law enforcement members when disaster strikes.
Cops and Kids for Christmas: Each Christmas season officers and citizens shop with local children in need of assistance as they purchase coats, shoes, and other clothing. The children are also allowed to purchase toys of their choosing. These children are chosen from over 100 applications and granted assistance based on need communicated from school counselors/teachers and police contacts through the year. Some are victims of a house fire, others have special needs, and many come from unhealthy home environments. After shopping for the day, volunteers wrap the children’s gifts (in excess of 500 gifts) so each child may know the joy of opening presents on Christmas Day.
Senior Gift Basket Program: On Christmas Eve over 100 volunteers gather and assemble gift boxes filled with eggs, fresh fruit, bread, juices, snacks, peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, pasta, canned goods, and milk. The Stones River FOP Foundation has traditionally served over 375 citizens who live in the elderly housing complexes of the Smyrna Housing Authority. After careful assembly each box is hand delivered to every one of the 375 residents in the community. For many, this is the only communication with others during the holiday season.
Law Enforcement Assistance: According to the National Law Enforcement Memorial there are 57,000 assaults on law enforcement each year. Additionally, an average of 150 peace officers die in the line of duty annually. The Stones River FOP Foundation serves to assist both officers injured in the line of duty and their families during their time of crisis.
