About
Pleasant Grove Lacrosse
The Pleasant Grove Lacrosse Club was founded in 2007. After their sons played a half season in the Elk Grove Club, Paul Abess and Paul Frank became interested in starting a program closer to home for the kids in the River Valley area. They processed through the legalities, recruited their kidsâ friends, and had one team in the spring of 2007. The first junior level team became the Northern California Champions that year, topping 16 teams in their division. The next year there were four teams, and two brought home the title of Champions. The next two years there were seven teams, including one girlsâ team. In 2010 there was another Championship team, this time at the JV level. The PGLC has hosted several clinics, spoken to youth at schools, organized âfield tripsâ to college games, been âteam of the monthâ in nationally distributed Lacrosse Magazine, and continually promoted the sport of lacrosse in Northern California. The success of the club is attributed not just to the players, but the outstanding board, coaches and parents who support the program. The coaches are on âthe same pageâ with respect to teaching the student athletes. They expect the players to show character, respect and integrity and to honor the game. They help develop the whole youth and mentor when appropriate. A commonly heard mantra is âone ground ball,â meaning that the little things can make a big difference!
