MATCH RULES:
This league operates under Gentlemen Rules:

  1. Objective: The objective of the game is to pocket all of your assigned group of balls (either solids or stripes) and then legally pocket the 8-ball to win the game.

  2. Rack Setup: The balls are racked in a triangle with the 8-ball in the center and the apex ball on the foot spot. The two back corner balls must be one solid and one stripe.

  3. Break Shot: The game starts with a lag or a predetermined method agreed upon by the players to determine who breaks first. The player winning the lag gets the choice to break or assign the break to the opponent. The break must be made from behind the headstring, and the cue ball must strike the racked balls first.

  4. Open Table: After the break, it is an open table. The player at the table can choose their group (solids or stripes) by legally pocketing any ball of their desired group. The player must clearly indicate their intended group and pocket before shooting.

  5. Continuing the Inning: Players must legally pocket a called ball on each shot to continue their inning. The player continues their turn as long as they successfully pocket their called shot. If a player fails to pocket their called shot or commits a foul, it becomes the opponent's turn.

  6. Called Shots: All shots must be called, meaning the player must clearly indicate the intended ball and the intended pocket before shooting. The player must specify the ball and pocket with enough precision for others to understand their intention.

  7. Combination Shots and Caroms: Combination shots (striking one ball into another to pocket a ball) and caroms (striking a ball with the cue ball, which then contacts and pockets another ball) are allowed as long as the player calls the intended shot and pocket.

  8. Sloppy Shots: In this league, "sloppy shots" are not allowed. If a player accidentally pockets a ball other than their called shot, it is considered a foul, and their turn ends.

  9. Fouls: Common fouls include scratching (cue ball goes into a pocket), not making contact with the called ball, pocketing the cue ball, or failing to hit any ball. When a foul occurs, it becomes the opponent's turn, and they have ball-in-hand, meaning they can place the cue ball anywhere on the table before their shot.

  10. Winning the Game: The game is won when a player legally pockets all of their assigned group balls and then legally pockets the 8-ball.
