The Drayton Valley swim club is a non-profit, parent run club that has been providing our community with a fun and exciting experience for children for over 15 years.
The Drayton Valley Lightning Swim Club strives to introduce children to water at the early age of 4 to 18 years of age. Together we can provide the environment and experiences that will allow all children to reach their maximum personal potential. Swimmers can progress at their own pace, from learning the fundamentals to developing advanced skills such as life-saving swim safety. The club strives to help all swimmers improve their skills and achieve success at their ability level.
Expectations of club parents:
The club cannot function effectively without the participation from parents. It is expected that as a parent of a swimmer under the age of six you remain at the pool with your child until their session is finished. That way coaches are not disrupted from their class, leaving the other swimmers in the pool, if your child has to use the bathroom or has an emergency. Each swimmer is asked to be at the pool in their swimsuit, at least five minutes prior to the session starting.
Benefits of being part of a swim club:
Life skills – safety is the most important reason your child should learn to swim, swimming is a life skill and helps develop self-confidence. It's a skill that your child will retain for the entirety of their life. Swimming is one sport that has the potential to be a true lifesaver.
Friendship – being a part of a club is a great way for your child to make new friends and strengthen relationships with existing ones.
Social benefits – although swimming is usually an individual sport, swim club will give your child and opportunity to develop your social skills. Your child will learn what they can achieve with dedication and regular practice, while learning to act appropriately around others, and gaining an understanding that everyone progresses at different rates.
Fitness – as well as being fun, swimming is a great way to keep fit and stay healthy. Swimming is a healthy activity that you can continue for a lifetime. It is a low impact activity that has many physical and mental health benefits. Being a part of the swim club will allow your child the option of swimming competitively in the future.
