Tournament Rules & Info

All games will be played at the sand volleyball court at Holiday Lakes Main Bach in Willard, OH.

The tournament will be capped at 12 teams due to time constraints.

Start times, schedule, and more info will be released once registration closes on 6/26.

Each team consists of no more than 4 players on the court at one time however, bench players are allowed for substitutions.
All games will be played using rally scoring. Pool matches will consist of 1 game to 15. Teams must win by 2 and there is a cap at 20. Each team will have at least 2 pool matches (consisting of 1 game each). Once all pool matches are completed, teams will be seeded by win/loss record and point differential for the single elimination tournament. Due to only having 1 net and a lack of time - there will be no consolation matches (aka losers bracket). Tournament matches will be best 2 out of 3 format. Each game to 15, win by 2 and capped at 20.

BEGINNING OF THE GAME:
The beginning of the game will start with both team captains rock/paper/scissor to choose either serve or side. Each match will consist of three games.

TEAM SIZE:
Each team consists of 4 players on the court at one time with 2 males and 2 females. Can have more than 2 females but never more than 2 males on the court. A team with 3 players is considered legal as long as 1 member is a female. Teams may have as many players on their roster as they want. There is no maximum limit on the amount of females on the court at one time. All rosters must be finalized before the tournament starts. Organizers will email roster sheets once you complete registration. Adding new players to a team during the tournament is not allowed.

GAMES:
All games will be played using rally scoring. Pool matches consist of 1 game each to 15. Teams must win by 2 and there is a cap at 20. Tournament matches will be best 2 out of 3 format, games to 15, win by 2 and capped at 20.

SELF-REFFED:
All games will be self-reffed. There will be an organizer on-site at all times monitoring the games. The teams are asked to keep score out loud for every serve. At the end of the game, scores need to be reported to one of the organizers.

RULES:
• A legal serve is one that crosses the net and is either touched by an opposing player or lands within the opposing team’s area of the court within the boundary lines. A serve that makes contact with the net and carries over to the opponent’s side of the net is a live serve and must be returned.
• The server may not step on or over the end line until the ball has been contacted. The width of the service area is from sideline to sideline. The depth of the service area is infinite.
• There is no male/female hitting rules. There can be no more than 2 males on the court, per team, at any time.
• A defensive block does not count as one of the allowable contacts. A player may reach over the net to block a ball if: a.- Any portion of the ball breaks the plane of the net.
b.- After the offense has come in contact with the ball on the third attempt.

• The serve may not be blocked or spiked.

• Players can return the serve by: a. Bump pass
b. Clasping their hands together
c. A closed fist
d. A set (AS LONG AS THE BALL IS NOT CAUGHT OR CARRIED)
• No part of the body may touch the net at any time unless a ball or person driven into the net from the opposing side causes the contact. Contact with hair or part of the uniform will not be considered a fault.

• Hand sets cannot be sloppy and cannot rotate excessively or else "double contact" will be called. See organizers for demonstration and clarification. When setting, a player may set the ball over the net in front or behind them only in the direction in which their shoulders are squarely facing.

• Contact of the ball when spiking is legal only if a portion of the ball is in contact with the plane of the net or on the spikers side of the net. Spikers may follow through over the net after legal contact.

• The ball must be cleanly hit when spiking with an open hand. Carrying is illegal. A carry is any use of an open hand(s) while making contact with the ball that is not in a firm manner.

• Out of bounds is the area outside the designated beach court line.

• A player may cross over the bottom center line as long as it does not interfere with play.

• The ball can contact any number of body parts down to, and including the foot.

FORFEITS:
Teams will forfeit 1 game for every 10 minutes past the designated start time that they do not have the legal amount of players. If no players are present from a team by 15 minutes after the designated start time the entire match will be forfeited and the team that is present will receive all three wins of the match. Shorthanded teams may play a legal game with a minimum of 3 players (at least one female is needed). Teams fielding less than 3 players or without 1 woman will receive a forfeit. Exception: Teams with less than 3 players may still play a “legal” game but only with the opposing teams consent. All teams consenting to play a legal game with less than the allowed minimum waive their right to a forfeit win.
