NSC Badminton Tournament Handbook

1. Match Format & Knockout Qualification

• Multiple categories conducted independently
• Categories may be divided into groups (e.g., Group A, Group B)
• Round-robin format within groups
• Top 2 teams from each group qualify for semi-finals (where applicable)
• Semi-finals: Group A (1st) vs Group B (2nd), Group B (1st) vs Group A (2nd) • Finals: Best of 3 games
• Single group categories may use standings or organizer-defined progression

2. Scoring System

• Rally point scoring system
• Each match is played to 21 points
• Must win by a minimum margin of 2 points if game goes to 21-21

• Finals follow Best of 3 format

3. Group Rankings

• Total points scored • Point differential
• Head-to-head result • Tie-break if required

4. Service Rules (Doubles)

• Service must be diagonal
• Short service line (front box) is OUT
• Long service line (back box) is OUT during serve • Full court is in play after valid serve

5. Gameplay Rules

• Shuttle landing on boundary line is IN
• Players must not touch the net while game in play
• Players must not obstruct opponents while game in play
• Rally ends when shuttle hits ground or fault occurs

6. Line Calls & Disputes

• Side where shuttle lands makes the call
• If disagreement occurs, attempt mutual resolution • If unresolved, point is replayed (let)

7. Faults & Lets

• Faults: shuttle out, double hit(birdie gets touched more than once), incorrect service, net touch

• Lets: disputes, external interference, interruptions

8. Interval & Court Change

• 60-second interval when score reaches 11 points • Optional court side change at 11 points
• Play must resume promptly after interval

9. Umpires & Line Judges

• Semi-finals and finals will have umpires and line judges
• Other matches will not have line judges and umpires by default
• Teams may request line judges via organizers/court managers (subject to availability)

10. Score Reporting

• Winning team must report match result and score to scorer after each match

11. Match Readiness & Timing

• Players must report on time

• Grace period may be allowed at organizer discretion for valid reasons

• Failure to report may result in walkover

12. Byes, Walkovers & Organizer Discretion

• Walkover may be awarded if team is not present
• Byes are decided purely at organizer discretion
• No swapping or contesting of bye decisions
• Organizers may adjust matches for fairness and scheduling

13. Player Conduct

• Players must maintain sportsmanship
• No abusive language or misconduct
• Violations may result in warning, penalty, or disqualification

14. Equipment Rules

• Non-marking shoes required
• Approved shuttlecocks (e.g., Mavis 350)

• Standard badminton rackets only

15. Eligibility & Substitutions

• Only registered players allowed
• No substitutions unless approved

• Violations may lead to forfeiture

16. Organizer Authority

• Organizer decisions are final and binding

• Organizers may modify rules if required

17. Safety & Liability

• Players participate at their own risk

Organizers are not responsible for injuries or loss of belongings
