League Format

Westmoreland 7s is an adult 7v7 soccer league. Each team will play with 6 field players and 1 goalkeeper.

Each team is guaranteed 7 games (weather permitting). Teams that advance to the championship may play up to 9 total games.

All league updates, standings, schedules, and general announcements will be posted through Playpass.

Player Eligibility and Rosters

Players must be 21 years or older to participate.

Each team must have a minimum roster size of 7 players and a maximum roster size of 12 players.

All players must be registered through Playpass before participating.

No unregistered players are permitted to play in any Westmoreland 7s game.

Rosters must be finalized before the first game of the season unless otherwise approved by Westmoreland 7s.

Any roster changes after the season begins must be approved by Westmoreland 7s.

Only players who are on the official roster and eligible to play may participate in playoff games.

Team Captains

All teams must have a designated captain.

Captains will be responsible for receiving direct communication from the league and relaying important information to their team.

Captains are also responsible for making sure their players are registered, aware of the schedule, and following league rules.

Field and Goal Dimensions

Games will be played on an approximately 55-yard by 35-yard field.

Goal dimensions will be approximately 7 feet high by 21 feet wide, depending on the available field setup and park equipment.

Exact field and goal dimensions may vary slightly based on the park’s available space, field layout, and equipment.

Game Length and Clock

Games will consist of two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime.

Games will use a running clock.

The clock will only stop at the referee’s discretion.

Stoppage time is not guaranteed and will be handled at the referee’s discretion.

Game Times

Saturday game times will be:

1:10 PM, 2:20 PM, 3:30 PM

Teams should arrive early and be ready to begin at their scheduled game time.

A team that is not ready to play at the scheduled game time may lose warmup time or risk forfeiture.

Season Schedule

Regular season games will be played on:

August 15, August 22, September 5, September 12, September 19, September 26, October 3rd.

August 29 will be used as a bye week due to one of the facility’s annual tournaments.

Playoffs will be held on October 10.

October 17 may be used as a backup date if needed.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather, field availability, forfeits, park decisions, or other league needs.

Playoffs

The top 4 teams in the standings will qualify for the playoffs.

The playoff format will be:

1 seed vs 4 seed, 2 seed vs 3 seed

The winners of each semifinal will advance to the championship game.

Semifinal and championship games will be played on the same day unless weather, field availability, or another issue requires a schedule change.

If a playoff game ends in a tie, the game will go directly to penalty kicks.

Penalty kicks will begin with 3 shooters from each team. If the game is still tied after 3 rounds, penalty kicks will continue one round at a time until one team scores and the other team does not.

Standings

Standings will be based on the following point system:

Win: 3 points, Tie: 1 point, Loss: 0 points, Forfeit win: 3 points and a 3-0 result

Tiebreakers will be determined in the following order:

  1. Total points
  2. Goal differential
  3. Goals scored
  4. Goals allowed
  5. Fewest forfeits
  6. League decision or coin flip

Westmoreland 7s may cap goal differential for standings purposes if needed to discourage running up the score.

Forfeits

A minimum of 5 players must be present to start a game.

If a team does not have at least 5 players present, the team will forfeit the game and receive a 3-0 loss.

If both teams fail to have the minimum number of players, the game may be recorded as a double forfeit.

A team that knows it cannot attend should notify Westmoreland 7s as soon as possible.

Multiple forfeits in the same season may result in the players or team not being allowed to register for future Westmoreland 7s seasons.

Team Colors and Equipment

Team colors will be assigned or agreed upon after signups are complete.

Soccer cleats are required. Metal cleats are not permitted.

Shin guards are encouraged.

Players should not wear jewelry or any item that the referee determines to be unsafe.

The league will use a size 5 soccer ball.

If there is a color conflict, one team may be required to change colors or wear pinnies.

Substitutions

Substitutions are unlimited and should be made on the fly.

Players entering the game should wait until the player coming off is near the sideline before entering the field.

Substitutions should not interfere with play or create an unfair advantage.

The referee may stop or correct substitutions if needed.

Game Rules

There will be no offsides.

Goalkeepers are not permitted to punt or drop-kick the ball.

Goalkeepers may throw, roll, or play the ball from the ground.

Excessive or aggressive slide tackling may result in a yellow card or red card at the referee’s discretion.

All free kicks will be taken from the spot of the foul and are indirect unless otherwise directed by the referee.

Opposing players must give proper space on free kicks, kick-ins, corners, and restarts.

Cards and Discipline

A yellow card will result in the player leaving the field for 3 minutes.

The team may not replace that player during the 3-minute penalty.

Two yellow cards in the same game will result in a red card.

A red card will result in the player being suspended for the rest of the game and potentially any following games.

A player who receives a red card must leave the field area immediately.

Additional discipline may be issued depending on the severity of the incident.

Westmoreland 7s reserves the right to extend suspensions or remove players from the league depending on the severity of the incident.

Fighting, aggressive language, threats, or dangerous behavior will result in termination from the league without a refund.

The referee’s decision is final during games. Continued arguing, disrespect, or refusal to follow referee instructions may result in a card, ejection, forfeit, or removal from the league.

Weather and Cancellations

Weather delays and cancellations are ultimately up to the park.

Westmoreland 7s will do its best to make up canceled games on a later date, but makeup games are not guaranteed if field availability, weather, or scheduling conflicts prevent them.

Players and teams should check Playpass for weather updates, schedule changes, and cancellation notices.

If a game is stopped due to weather or field conditions, Westmoreland 7s will determine whether the game is final, resumed later, or rescheduled.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be given unless the season is canceled by Westmoreland 7s.

Refunds will not be given for missed games, forfeits, injuries, suspensions, removals from the league, weather-related schedule changes, or personal scheduling conflicts.

Player Conduct

All players are expected to respect referees, opponents, teammates, spectators, park staff, and league staff.

Teams are responsible for the behavior of their players and spectators.

Players and spectators must follow all Murrysville Community Park rules while at the facility.

Trash, equipment, and personal belongings should be cleaned up after each game.

Westmoreland 7s is intended to be competitive, but still community-focused. Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.

Any player or team that violates league rules, park rules, or safety expectations may be removed from the league without a refund.

Injuries and Liability

Players participate at their own risk and are responsible for their own health and safety.

Soccer involves risk of injury. By registering and participating, players acknowledge and accept those risks.

Players should not participate if they are injured, ill, or medically unable to play.

Serious injuries should be reported to Westmoreland 7s as soon as possible.

League Authority

Westmoreland 7s reserves the right to make final decisions on rule interpretations, discipline, scheduling, playoff eligibility, forfeits, and any situation not directly covered in these rules.

Rules may be updated if needed to protect player safety, league operations, field availability, or the overall quality of the league.
