Spencer County Fastpitch Association

Welcome to Spencer County Fastpitch Association (SCFA)!

At SCFA, we are committed to nurturing the development of female athletes through focus on softball fundamentals, life skills, and leadership. Our goal is to empower players and coaches to become lifelong students of the game, fostering a community of growth and support.

Our Mission:
Spencer County Fastpitch Association (SCFA) is a non-profit organization founded by Coach Leigh Thomas, Coach Jeremy Satterly, and Coach Josh Long. We are dedicated to creating a positive environment that offers numerous learning opportunities for female athletes and their coaches. By emphasizing the importance of both softball fundamentals and essential life skills, we strive to develop well-rounded individuals on and off the field.

Our Services:
SCFA is committed to the holistic development of our female athletes, focusing on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. We offer a variety of programs and services, including:
• Camps & Clinics: Skill development sessions for all ages and experience levels.
• Travel Teams: Competitive opportunities for athletes looking to play at a higher level.
• Recreational Teams: Inclusive teams for all skill levels, promoting fun and learning.
• Recruitment Guidance: Resources and support for players interested in pursuing softball at the collegiate level.

Recreational League
In 2022, Spencer County Fastpitch Association (SCFA) was formed through the merger of Intensity Fastpitch and Spencer County Black Widows, creating a unified program offering both recreational and travel teams for young girls in our community.
Our recreational league is open to players of all skill levels and provides a fantastic opportunity for girls to develop their softball abilities, make new friends, and enjoy the game in a fun, supportive environment. Weekly practices and games are held at Waterford Park, where players can learn and grow on the field.

Spring 2025 Season Information: The Spring 2025 season schedule will be announced soon. Check back often so you don't miss out on the chance to join us on the diamond!

Travel Organization: Intensity Fastpitch
Intensity Fastpitch is the travel team associated with SCFA, offering competitive opportunities for players ready to take their skills to the next level. Unlike the recreational league, Intensity Fastpitch competes in tournament-based games, not a league setting. This means teams travel on weekends to various tournaments, playing multiple back-to-back games and challenging themselves against strong competition.
Teams & Age Divisions: Intensity Fastpitch fields teams for 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. Most tournaments are governed by USSSA rules, with player divisions determined by age as of the start of the USSSA season (August 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025). Unsure of your player’s division? Use the USSSA Age Calculator to find out.
Player Expectations: Playing travel ball requires a greater commitment and heightened expectations compared to recreational play. Players are held to a higher standard and are responsible for their own development and playing time. At this level, communication with coaches regarding playing time or performance should come directly from the player, not the parent. While we want players to enjoy their time with Intensity Fastpitch, they should understand that this stage in their development involves greater responsibility, dedication, and seriousness.

Additional Information:
We welcome any questions and encourage you to reach out for more details. Tryouts for Intensity are held in the summer. We look forward to seeing your player at tryouts for the upcoming 2025 season!

Lessons & Training
While SCFA does not provide private lessons or training, we highly recommend seeking additional instruction to help players develop their skills. Below are some trusted resources:

Pitching Instruction:
Pitching requires consistent practice and dedication beyond regular team sessions. We recommend that pitchers begin working on pitching as early as possible and work with specialized instructors to further develop their skills. Suggested pitching instructor:
• Leigh Thomas, Taylorsville Sporting Goods

Hitting & Fielding Instruction:
For players looking to improve their hitting and fielding techniques, or strengthen these skills in the off season, consider private lessons at:
• Taylorsville Sporting Goods
These resources offer personalized coaching to enhance your athlete's skills and confidence on the field.

Sponsorships & Donations
As a non-profit organization, SCFA relies on the generosity of our community through fundraising and donations. Your support enables us to help young female athletes achieve their dreams and develop lifelong skills both on and off the field. We are currently working to build additional fields in Spencer County, complete with lights, to provide our athletes with quality playing spaces. Every contribution brings us closer to making this vision a reality for the girls of Spencer County. Thank you for your support!
